Expanding Opportunity

Watch

As a leading alternative asset manager, Apollo recognizes our responsibility to be a platform of opportunity for others. Our Expanding Opportunity initiative leverages the full force of the Apollo ecosystem to drive positive change across our workplace, across the marketplace of the alternatives investing and insurance industries, and across the communities where we work and live.

Our workplace initiatives are focused on building a modern, diverse, and inclusive work environment that promotes belonging and engagement; our marketplace initiatives are centered around how we leverage our capital and commercial resources to benefit diverse asset managers, financial institutions, and suppliers; and through our community initiatives, we seek to lead responsibly, through investments of time, talent, and treasure that create economic opportunity and prosperity for all.

At Apollo, our people are core to all that we do. Apollo manages our culture with the same level of thoughtfulness and care with which we manage our funds’ investments and serve our clients. From recruitment and training programs to diversity policies and procedures, we aim to ensure that different experiences, perspectives, skills, genders, ages, ethnicities, and cultural and social backgrounds are represented across every level of the firm. Through our firm’s robust employee affinity networks and our activities every day, we seek to make Apollo’s culture a model for our industry and society at large.

Launched in 2022, the Apollo Opportunity Foundation builds on Apollo’s commitment with a plan to invest more than $100 million over the next decade in non-profit organizations working to expand opportunity for underrepresented individuals.

Investing in Black Futures

In June 2021, we launched an initiative that epitomizes our DE&I ambitions: Apollo, Ares Capital, and Oaktree Capital announced the creation of AltFinance, a fellowship, in partnership with non-profit organizations and academic institutions, to create clear pathways for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) into alternatives firms and portfolio companies. In conjunction, Apollo launched HBCUNet, a new educational and recruiting platform powered by CareerBuilder that aims to connect students and alumni from HBCUs with career opportunities at Apollo and across its private equity funds’ portfolio companies. “They’re part of a ten-year initiative that we believe will have transformational impact,” says Jonathan Simon, Head of Diversityand Leadership Development, Apollo Global Management.

Our Citizenship Efforts

Our Citizenship program provides a forum for employees to make a positive impact in their communities through a variety of initiatives and engagement activities. Our global head of Citizenship leads this effort, and more than 30 employees serve in leadership roles on the Citizenship Steering Committee and Citizenship Advisory Council. An additional 40+ employees serve on local office committees to activate Citizenship around the globe.

Since its launch, Citizenship has curated a diverse portfolio of opportunities for Apollo employees to get involved through volunteerism, philanthropy, and special initiatives. Citizenship offers ways for employees to develop their leadership skills and make a positive impact on our firm’s culture and communities.

Each year, every full-time employee has a $2,500 (or local equivalent) Citizenship Grant which matches their gifts of money (1:1) or time ($25 for every volunteer hour) to eligible non-profit organizations. Apollo is proud to support and amplify the wide range of interests among our team.

Citizenship’s inaugural core initiative, The Apollo Community Impact Accelerator (“ACIA”), seeks to expand opportunities by partnering with Fellows from Echoing Green, a social entrepreneurship ecosystem. Through ACIA, Apollo Citizenship will provide funding and strategic advice to five social enterprises, harnessing the collective resources and expertise from across the firm. The ACIA applicants were reviewed by Apollo employees, who also serve on advisory teams for each organization.
